MY VISIT TO JAMIITOWN FOUNDATION – A BEACON OF HOPE IN KILIFI
Today, I had the honour of visiting the Jamiitown Foundation and meeting its visionary founder, Ms. Laura Passuello, at the Jamiitown Head Office. It was an inspiring and heartwarming experience that reaffirmed the power of community-driven change and the importance of giving back.
During my visit, I had the opportunity to engage with some of the more than 100 children who benefit from this incredible initiative. These children span across junior schools, senior secondary schools, vocational colleges, and universities. What touched me most was their confidence, their bright smiles, and the unwavering hope they carry for a better future.

One of the Foundation’s most impactful programs is the provision of free weekly computer classes for all the children. Housed in a modern, fully-equipped computer lab, this initiative is equipping the young generation of Kilifi with essential digital skills—tools that are critical for navigating today’s technology-driven world. In a county where such resources are often unavailable, this program is truly life-changing.
But the work of the Foundation doesn’t end with education. Jamiitown Foundation, in partnership with Nyota Ya Asubuhi-Koinonia (CBO), also supports over 75 local families with regular food supplies. Even more significantly, they walk hand-in-hand with children and their families through mentorship programs, offering emotional support, moral guidance, and a strong sense of community.
Together, Jamiitown Foundation and Nyota Ya Asubuhi-Koinonia (CBO) are true agents of change in Kilifi. Their work is a living example of what it means to invest in people—not just their present, but their future.
As I left the Foundation, I felt deeply moved and more committed than ever to supporting such impactful, people-centered initiatives. What Ms. Laura Passuello and her team are doing is nothing short of transformational. It was a privilege to witness their dedication and love in action.
Thank you, Jamiitown Foundation, for reminding us that hope, when nurtured, can grow into something beautiful. You are redefining what it means to live and serve with purpose.
